Akshardham Temple is one of the latest tourist attractions in Delhi. Inaugurated on 06 November, 2005, Akshardham, Delhi is a Hindu Temple Complex built by HDH Pramukh Swami Maharaj of BAPS (Bochasanwasi Shri Akshar Purushottam Swaminarayan Sanstha).

Located on NH-24, Akshardham Temple, Delhi is second Akshardham complex in India after the one in Gandhi Nagar, Gujarat.

Akshardham Mandir

Akshardham mandir in Delhi is considered to be one of the wonders of modern India. This grand, beautifully and intricately carved, temple is built entirely of Rajasthani Pink Sandstone and Italian Carrara marble; no concrete or steel has been used for its construction.

Located at the centre of the complex, Akshardham mandir was built according to the guideline of ‘Vaastu Shastra’ and ‘Pancharatra Shastra’.

The temple stands supported by 234 ornately carved pillars and has nine domes. The walls of the temple adorn detailed carvings of deities, dancers, flora and fauna.

Within the temple stand 20000 idols of Hindu deities, sadhus, devotees and acharyas. Each statue is made of ‘Paanch dhaatus’ (The five metals) in accordance with Hindu holy scriptures.

Under the central dome, stands an eleven feet tall statue of Swaminarayan surrounded by statues of the Gurus of the sect.

Considering the grand scale and minute detailing of the temple architecture, it’s really surprising that the construction of the temple complex was completed in only five years.

The temple displays an amazing blend of several architectural styles and was enunciated by Guiness Book of World Record as world’s largest comprehensive Hindu Temple.
