Pahalgam

96 Km from Srinagar, in the Anantnag district of J&K, is a small beautiful town of Pahalgam.

A picturesque town with mesmerizing natural beauty and revitalizing air, Pahalgam has it all…. Heavenly mountains, gushing river, lush green meadows and dense forests! No wonder it was one of the hot favourite destinations for the shooting of Bollywood movies till 1980s.

Located on the confluence of river Lidder and streams originating from Sheshnag Lake, Pahalgam offers breathtaking views of the majestic mountains and the river rushing through the rocks.

There are a number of hiking and trekking trails around Pahalgam.

In summers, Pahalgam is delightful with lush meadows and hordes of visitors are seen picnicking on the banks of the river. One can go trekking, do white water rafting, enjoy a pony ride or try a hand at angling. And if not, simply do nothing and immerse in the beauty of nature.

Every year, during Amarnath Yatra (End of June to early August) Pahalgam serves as a basecamp for pilgrims proceeding to the shrine of Lord Shiva in Amarnath. During this period the town is bustling with pilgrims and it’s a good idea to plan a trip either before or after the Amarnath Yatra.

In winters, Pahalgam receives heavy snowfall and tempts the visitors into snow sports like sledging and tobogganing.
