Srinagar

Located in the heart of the Kashmir Valley, at an altitude of 5700 feet, Srinagar is the summer capital of Jammu & Kashmir and is beautifully spread on both sides of river Jhelum.

The two parts of the city are linked by nine ancient bridges. Lakes and rivers have always been the center of activities in Srinagar.

‘Srinagar’, in Sanskrit, means ‘the city of wealth and abundance’.

The city is dotted with numerous historical monuments and places of worship which are long-standing evidences of the historical unity of Srinagar despite the establishment of diverse religious denominations & sects in the valley since ages.

While the city has a no. of age-old mosques and gurudwaras, it also houses many ancient Hindu temples and monasteries.

As of today, few of these monuments are recognized by UNESCO as Heritage sites.

The valley is distinctively marked by breathtaking lakes, fresh water streams, mighty mountains, dense forests, luscious fruits and lush meadows which together make it a paradise on Earth.

The heart of the city, the Dal lake, enhances its picturesque setting, while the changing play of the seasons and its salubrious climate make Srinagar attractive and inviting to visitors throughout the year.

Its waterways with their own quaint style, unique houseboats, majestic Chinar trees, the blossoming gardens, water-sports and numerous shopping options make it a cherished spot among those looking for an enchanting and memorable holiday.
